Aselia Wiki page

PERSONALITY:

Aegis was born to somewhat poor but hard working parents who ran a small liquor store in their "backwoods town", as he once described it. Growing up he never saw them purchase anything new for themselves, not even clothing, making their own from sewn together old rags. Aegis' only real joy in life were the novels they scraped together the gald to buy; books about mechs and warriors fighting for good against clear-cut evil. He lived in a world where justice and righteousness were ideals that everyone appeared to live by about thanks to the mysterious vision orbs and Vision Central that broadcast crimes for the people to decide the punishment of. His only skill being "obstinacy", Aegis wanted nothing more than to be like the heroes he read about and joined the knight academy in the Kingdom of Medagal at a young age.

His parents truly believed he would make a great knight someday and that belief kept him going even when he had nothing else. Knowing how much of a burden paying his tuition was on them he pushed him to train, work harder than any other student at the academy and eventually climb the ranks until he was Knight Commander by eighteen. He swore that he would uphold the virtues that guided him to that point, vowing to be a "living exemplar of righteousness, protecting the innocent and punishing the wicked."

These were the characteristics that Aegis not only built his entire life upon, it was the unwavering faith in his code that cost him everything.

When Aegis is first encountered he is shown to be fully indoctrinated in the ideals set forth by the Order of Knights and the vision orbs to the point where he refuses to believe even children have legitimate reasons for their crimes. He views them all as cut from the same cloth, to the point where he was utterly convinced that any transgressor, no matter the severity of their crime didn't have a right to smile. Or live. Initially this was a trait that was entirely unwavering in him, not swayed by the pleas of those condemned.

Aegis could easily be considered both narrow minded and highly focused, both traits having just as many benefits as negatives. It kept him on his initial path, kept him from being led astray, but it also meant that he had time or even room for little else in his life. Though never stated outright it seemed the only friend he had, even in the loosest sense, was Leon Magnus and that was a friendship born of being delegated the same task.

So intense was his focus on justice and honor that even his efforts of kindness towards the queen of Medagal, Rebecca became misconstrued as genuine affection and love for her. In truth he held no such feelings for her but due to his sense of duty to those whom he saw as downtrodden and suffering such as Rebecca was because of her loveless marriage to the king Aegis unintentionally led her on and did nothing to properly dissuade her growing feelings for him. He couched his willingness to listen to her problems and allow her to cry - albeit with his back turned so as not to see the indignity of her tears - in a desire to help and nothing more. There was a constant half heartedness that made his insistence difficult for her to believe. There was an underlying selfishness in his behavior, tied up as with everything else in his desire, nay need to be that shining knight of virtue and purity that he read so much about as a child.

His knighthood, the life he had painstakingly built for himself, his very foundations and even his sense of self was ripped from his hands in one fell swoop when everything he had done for Queen Rebecca was turned against him. Before his very eyes she was slain by the order of her husband, earning his stain of guilt upon being framed and thusly condemned by the public for her murder. He found himself adrift in uncertainty, a future now blank and all of his previous struggles made moot in a world that only believed what they were told to believe by the very system he had spent his entire life defending and perpetrating.

It took Aegis understanding upon meeting other transgressors in the "Nation of Sin", watching them continue to live but not forget their sins, that the world was not as black and white as he so painfully desired it to be. Witnessing their slaughter at the inhuman hands of the Enforcers and their terrifying child-like but bloodthirsty leader Makina was enough to drag him out of his misery and depression in an otherwise futile effort to prevent the entire genocide of the Nation. While his aid in the end did nothing but save his own skin and that of his new companions, it did spur him into realizing that if he were to really have any sense of justice at all he needed to accept his sin and live. Truly live. Not just exist in a bubble of ideals and half hearted truths.

He is still absolutely someone who is a product of his environment. He's still entirely too stuffy for his own good and prone to overractions especially if he feels even a little slighted, which often results in him becoming something of an unintentional butt monkey as no one in his otherwise ragtag group really takes him all that seriously. This isn't helped at all by the fact that beneath all of the prim and proper, the wanting to be frugal and his general sour-faced attitude towards so much he's still somehow a fan boy who takes his love of Silver Mechaknight Avalanche entirely too goddamn seriously.

It's not all bad, though. As his sense of justice has shifted to one that wants to genuinely make the world a better place, one not ruled by something that can be so easily corrupted, he has also become more genuine in his desire to help in a way that is no longer self serving and seated in such blind following of so-called morality. There is a good heart inside of how complicated he is as a person, someone who as a child saw the heroic words of brave warriors on a page and innocently believed that he, too could change the world if he just had the chance.

POWERS/ABILITIES:

⚔ Combat/Artes

In Crestoria, combat is broken down into three components - Basic attacks, Artes, and Mystic Artes.

Aegis' initial weapon is a basic spear, though he is eventually given a different polearm through his Blood Sin, a weapon closer to a glaive called Wavering Heart. Regardless of the change over he takes to both naturally and has proven skills on the battlefield that have earned him his rather high rank despite his age.

His basic moves and artes are rapid and wide, focused mainly on sweeping and juggling aerial attacks, using the long reach of a polearm to its advantage and keeping himself at a distance other weapons wouldn't afford. He is, however, somewhat limited in terms of power and relies mainly on the relentlessness of his attacks rather than the actual strength behind them.

His mystic arte is a build up of power released in a single straight line at a single enemy, doing little if no damage to any surrounding enemies but still packing enough of a punch to be considered dangerous to the unprepared.

⚔ Misc

Overall, Aegis' intense focus on his training and eventual job as Knight commander kept him from gaining much else in the way of notable skills. He can be fairly frugal, but that tends to go out the window if there's even a hint of Mechaknight merchandise in the area. He at least knows how to cook passably, even with limited supplies. He is obviously well read and intelligent, but intelligence doesn't always parse with common sense or even emotional awareness. He was given the task to write a script in a short amount of time for a play, but it was hinted that even if he was given all the time in the world he wouldn't be able to write anything better than a children's puppet show at best.

Overall the best things he has going for him are being able to fight and enjoying children's' novels about mechs...
